State of the University: Historic Construction Projects Set to Transform UL Lafayette Campus

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is experiencing a period of unprecedented growth and transformation, as evidenced by the numerous construction projects currently underway. President Dr. Joseph Savoie announced during the State of the University address that the University is managing more construction projects than at any time since before World War II.

These ambitious projects, funded by a combination of state and private dollars, aim to enhance the University’s “environment of success” for students and employees. Through new construction, renovations, and improvements, UL Lafayette is investing in its facilities and physical plant to meet the aspirations of its students and faculty.

Investing in the Future

The University is currently managing approximately $600 million in construction projects, including upgrades to heating and cooling systems, elevators, security, and roofs in various buildings. Additionally, the campus is addressing sidewalk repairs and ADA compliance upgrades to ensure accessibility for all.

Two of the oldest buildings on campus, Foster and DeClouet halls, are undergoing renovations. These historic buildings, built at the turn of the 20th century, house essential student services such as financial aid, student work study, and federal programs supporting first-generation and underrepresented students.

Transforming the Campus

Other notable construction projects include:

  • Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium: A $65 million renovation project to the home of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Football team.
  • Engineering Student-Centered Collaborative Building: A $55 million facility that will serve as the home of the Engineering Center of Excellence.
  • New Sciences Classroom Building: A state-of-the-art building currently in the design phase.
  • New Iberia Research Center: An upgrade to a level 3 biosafety facility.
  • Lab School: A new lab school in University Research Park under the direction of the College of Education & Human Development.

These projects reflect UL Lafayette’s commitment to serving as a “major engine for progress and economic growth.” By investing in its facilities and infrastructure, the University is creating a more vibrant and supportive campus environment for its students, faculty, and staff.

A Prayer for the University

As UL Lafayette continues to transform and grow, we pray for the success of these ambitious construction projects. May they be completed safely and on time, resulting in a campus that is both beautiful and functional. May these projects enhance the educational experience for students and foster a sense of pride and belonging among the University community. Let us also pray for the continued success of the University’s research endeavors and its contributions to the region’s economic development. Sources and related content
