LAFAYETTE, LA – In a joyous celebration marking a half-century of rich musical heritage, Festivals Acadiens et Créoles has unveiled the lineup for the 50th annual Cajun and Zydeco Music Festival. Set to take place from October 11-13 at Girard Park in Lafayette, this landmark event promises a heartfelt tribute to the festival’s origins and the vibrant traditions of Cajun and Zydeco music.
Tribute to the Inaugural Event
In honor of this golden anniversary, the festival’s opening night on Friday will spotlight a special homage to the inaugural 1974 event held at Blackham Coliseum. Patrick Mould, VP of Programming and Development, shared that the evening will feature performances by family members and local musicians who will re-create the magic of the first concert. Legendary names such as the Balfa Brothers, Nathan Abshire, Dennis McGee, Marc Savoy, the Ardoin Family, and Clifton Chenier will be honored through renditions of their iconic songs. This tribute underscores the enduring legacy and influence of these pioneering artists.
