ABBEVILLE, La. — Abbeville High School’s pep rally on Friday afternoon was electrified by a special tribute to two exceptional students. The event, marking the beginning of the school year, featured a celebration of 16-year-old Khandi Shuford and 17-year-old Brylee Batiste, who recently triumphed at the World Powerlifting Championship. Their achievements were a testament to hard work and community support, echoing the Biblical encouragement found in Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
Record-Breaking Performances Highlighted
Khandi Shuford and Brylee Batiste each shone brightly on the world stage, bringing home multiple titles. Shuford earned a first-place medal in the sub-junior category, along with second place in bench press and first place in deadlift. Reflecting on her achievement, Shuford shared, “I didn’t believe it when it first happened. I was like, is this real? I knew I could do it, I was nervous but I did it and made my mom’s birthday a really special day.” Her success exemplifies the perseverance described in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Batiste also achieved remarkable results, securing first place overall, second place in squat and bench press, and first place in deadlift. She expressed her gratitude for the community’s support, stating, “It feels amazing that we’re loved, appreciated, and supported in our own community.” Her father’s sentiments were echoed in 1 Thessalonians 5:11, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.”
Community Support Celebrated
The outpouring of support from Abbeville underscored the strength of local solidarity. Patrick Batiste, Brylee’s father, praised the town’s unwavering encouragement: “The community followed these girls greatly. You can’t ask for more than that. A small town like Abbeville stuck together 150%.” This support reflects the unity and strength of community, as stated in Ecclesiastes 4:9, “Two are better than one… If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”
Prayer for the Community
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the extraordinary accomplishments of Khandi Shuford and Brylee Batiste, and for the strength and support of their community.
