A Southern Supper with Heavenly Significance
The Bible describes a glorious event in Revelation 19:9, saying, “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” This “supper” is more than just a meal; it represents the ultimate gathering of believers in the presence of Jesus. Growing up in the South, the word “supper” has a special place in my heart, reminding me of family meals filled with love, like those prepared by my grandmother, Mama Stella. She would serve southern classics like fried chicken, collard greens, and her famous biscuits. I can’t help but imagine that God, in His infinite grace, might use her cooking skills in the wedding supper of the Lamb!
Dining with the Faithful
This heavenly feast will not only be about the food but also the company. In Matthew 8:11, Jesus speaks of the great feast in heaven, saying, “Many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.” The thought of dining with figures like Abraham, Isaac, the Apostle Paul, or even C.S. Lewis and C.H. Spurgeon is awe-inspiring. It gives us a glimpse of the eternal joy and fellowship that awaits us in heaven.
Heavenly Perspective
While we live on earth, we often focus on temporary concerns. Yet, in Colossians 3:1-2, Paul urges us to “set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Focusing on the realities of heaven allows us to view our earthly struggles with an eternal perspective, reminding us that our ultimate hope and reward lie in heaven.
A Prayer for Perspective
Father, help us to fix our eyes on You and the eternal hope we have in Christ. May the vision of the wedding supper of the Lamb inspire us to live with heavenly focus. Guide us in placing our trust in You, knowing that You are in control of all things. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
