A group of talented mechanical engineering students at the University of Louisiana—Lafayette (UL) is taking on an exciting challenge by designing and building a custom tricycle for the upcoming Acadiana 500 Tricycle Race. This project, led by senior students Andre Signoret, Katie Kaliszeski, and Matthew Dubea, marks the culmination of their academic journey and a testament to their hard work and ingenuity. The tricycle, a 32-inch-tall vehicle, is expected to be fully operational by the end of next week, ready for the race on April 26.
Real-World Experience and Collaboration
For these students, this project is more than just a final assignment—it’s a hands-on experience that mirrors the challenges of the real world. “We divided the process into two phases,” explained Signoret. “The first semester was all about designing, and the second semester focused on manufacturing and testing. By next week, we should have the tricycle completely done.” The students have worked diligently, learning to collaborate with external businesses and navigate the intricacies of project design and engineering, preparing them for success beyond graduation.
Faith and Work: A Biblical Perspective
The Bible encourages us to work diligently and with excellence in everything we do. Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” The effort of these students embodies this spirit, as they apply their skills and knowledge with integrity and passion. Their teamwork and dedication reflect not only their academic growth but also their faith in the value of hard work and service.
A Prayer for the Students and Community
Heavenly Father, we lift up Andre, Katie, Matthew, and all the students involved in this project. We pray that You continue to bless their efforts, guide their hands, and inspire their minds. May this experience not only equip them with valuable skills but also strengthen their faith and character as they prepare for the future. We also pray for the community, that this event may bring joy and unity to all involved. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
