Opelousas Catholic School Named “Cool School” for Faith-Fueled STEM Innovation

A New Generation of Builders and Believers

ST. LANDRY PARISH — Opelousas Catholic School is making headlines and hearts stir with its recent recognition as a “Cool School,” thanks to its groundbreaking approach to STEM education rooted in Christian values. Over the past two years, the school has cultivated a fourth-grade STEM club that introduces students to science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on learning. But what sets this initiative apart is its spiritual foundation: each lesson is designed not only to spark curiosity but to glorify God through creativity and stewardship.

As Proverbs 22:6 reminds us, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Opelousas Catholic is doing just that—equipping young minds with both technical skills and eternal truths.

Heavenly Hands: Where Faith Meets Innovation

Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, the school will launch the “Heavenly Hands STEM Lab,” an enrichment program for students in kindergarten through fourth grade. This lab will serve as a sacred space where students can explore problem-solving and design using tools like 3D printers and pens. The name itself reflects the school’s mission: to develop the whole child—mind, body, and spirit—through Christ-centered education.

School leaders say the lab will encourage students to see their talents as gifts from God, echoing 1 Peter 4:10: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.” Whether building bridges or coding simple programs, students are learning that innovation can be an act of worship.

STEM with a Soul: A Model for Christian Education

In a world increasingly driven by technology, Opelousas Catholic is proving that faith and science are not at odds—they are allies. By integrating biblical principles into STEM learning, the school is preparing students to be leaders who think critically, act compassionately, and serve boldly. The program reflects Romans 12:2: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

This recognition as a “Cool School” is more than an accolade—it’s a testimony. It shows that when Christian educators dare to dream big and trust God, extraordinary things happen.

A Prayer for Our Community

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Opelousas Catholic School and its commitment to raising up children in both wisdom and faith. Bless the students, teachers, and leaders as they embark on this new journey of discovery. May the Heavenly Hands STEM Lab be a place where Your truth is revealed through creativity, collaboration, and compassion. Strengthen every child to see themselves as Your workmanship, created for good works (Ephesians 2:10). And may this program inspire other schools to pursue excellence with eternal purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
