“A New Vision: How Life-Changing Technology is Helping a Lafayette Sixth Grader See the World Clearly”

For many of us, the ability to see is a gift we often take for granted. However, for eleven-year-old Kaidence Rogers, a sixth grader in Lafayette Parish, clear vision has been a challenge. Kaidence has retinitis pigmentosa (RP), a condition that causes cells in the retina to break down over time, leading to progressive vision loss. Thanks to a recent gift from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, Kaidence received high-tech vision aids from Sight Savers America, transforming her daily life and educational experience.

A New Vision for Learnin

The impact of these vision aids is profound, especially when it comes to Kaidence’s education. Her mother, Victoria Bihm, shared that tasks like homework, particularly in math, were incredibly difficult. “You don’t realize how much you take your vision for granted until you have a child that needs extra help to see,” Bihm remarked. With the new aids, Kaidence can now see words on a page and objects more clearly, making it easier for her to learn and participate in daily activities. This gift of sight aligns with the message in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world.” Just as light illuminates the path, these vision aids are bringing clarity and hope to Kaidence’s journey.
