In a world increasingly dependent on technological advancements, Boardwalk Robotics has announced a game-changer in the field of commercial robotics. Their newest creation, Alex, a humanoid upper torso designed for manufacturing, logistics, and maintenance, marks a significant step forward in workforce transformation. Boardwalk Robotics, founded in 2017 and closely tied to the prestigious Institute for Human Machine Cognition (IHMC), is positioning Alex to make a substantial impact in industries that rely heavily on precision and labor.

In Ecclesiastes 9:10, the Bible tells us, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might.” In a similar vein, Alex has been designed to help mankind accomplish work that requires great precision, strength, and consistency. The development of such technologies reminds us of the gifts God has given humanity—the ability to create, innovate, and expand the boundaries of what we thought possible.
THE HUMANOID SPACE TAKES NEW FORM WITHOUT LEGS
Unlike typical humanoids, Alex doesn’t have legs—yet. Boardwalk Robotics’ Chief Technology Officer, Brandon Shrewsbury, explains that their focus is on manipulation first, ensuring that the robot’s arms and hands are fully capable of handling complex tasks. “Legs may come later, but for now, we’re concentrating on making the upper body the best it can be,” he said. This strategic decision allows Alex to function efficiently and cost-effectively in industries where mobility isn’t a priority.
This echoes the principle in Proverbs 16:9: “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Just as Boardwalk Robotics has laid out a methodical plan for Alex’s development, we are reminded that we, too, must focus on perfecting the work before us while trusting that God will guide our next steps. By concentrating on the task at hand, Boardwalk demonstrates wisdom in its approach to building the future of robotics.
BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN TECHNOLOGY AND HUMANITY

Alex represents more than just innovation—it represents the intersection between human ingenuity and technology’s potential to improve lives. Boardwalk Robotics, though steeped in academic research, has made Alex commercially available for industries ranging from aviation to food processing. This opens up new opportunities for businesses to enhance productivity while reducing the risk of injury for human workers in dangerous environments.
The Bible reminds us in Genesis 1:28 that God has given mankind dominion over creation, charging us to care for and steward the Earth and all its resources. The development of technologies like Alex serves as a modern-day fulfillment of that charge, enabling us to harness the power of innovation for the good of society.
SAFETY FIRST: A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE ON ROBOTICS
One of the key factors that sets Alex apart from other humanoids is its focus on safety. With no legs to trip over or fall from, Alex’s stable base allows it to work closely with humans without posing a significant threat. In industries where accidents can be costly and even deadly, Alex’s design prioritizes the well-being of those who work alongside it.
In Psalm 127:1, it is written: “Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” While human efforts to ensure safety are important, we must always rely on God’s protection and wisdom. Alex’s safety features serve as a reminder that, while technology can aid us in protecting human life, our ultimate trust must be in the Lord.
A NEW DAWN FOR ROBOTICS AND WORK
As Alex begins its journey into the workforce, Boardwalk Robotics remains focused on its mission to bridge the gap between research and real-world applications. Through pilot programs and partnerships, the company seeks to demonstrate the value Alex brings to industries like logistics and aviation. Michael Morin, Boardwalk’s CEO, emphasizes the importance of educating businesses on how humanoid robots like Alex can fit into their operations. “We’re putting in the effort to show them how this could be implemented in their world,” Morin says.
In the same way, Christians are called to be educators and ambassadors of the Kingdom, showing others the value of living a Christ-centered life. In Matthew 5:16, Jesus says, “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Just as Boardwalk Robotics is pioneering new technology for the betterment of society, we are called to lead others toward a relationship with Christ through our words and actions.
PRAYER FOR OUR COMMUNITY AND THE FUTURE OF WORK
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of innovation and for the minds that create solutions to modern-day challenges. We pray for Boardwalk Robotics and all those involved in the development of Alex. May this technology be used to glorify You and to serve others with safety and integrity. Guide the hands and minds of those who work in technology, that their efforts may lead to peace, productivity, and protection for all.
We also lift up those in the workforce who may benefit from this technology. May they be blessed with opportunities to thrive, and may Your wisdom guide the future of work in a way that honors You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
