Broussard Fire Department Receives FEMA Grants

A Boost to Firefighter Safety and Efficiency

The Broussard Fire Department has received a significant financial boost from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to purchase essential equipment. These grants will enhance firefighter safety and improve the department’s ability to respond to emergencies.

Investing in Firefighter Health

The first grant, totaling $24,145.71, will be used to purchase a turnout gear washer and dryer. This equipment is crucial for decontaminating firefighting gear after exposure to hazardous substances. By investing in these machines, the department is prioritizing the long-term health and well-being of its firefighters. As the biblical verse in Proverbs 12:27 states, “The righteous care for the life of their animal, but the compassionate heart is good to all creatures.”

Enhancing Emergency Response Capabilities

The second grant, amounting to $172,333.33, will fund the purchase of an air cascade system. This system is used to refill air tanks for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), which are essential for firefighters operating in hazardous environments. By having an air cascade system on-scene, the department can reduce response times and improve the safety of firefighters during critical incidents. As the biblical verse in Proverbs 24:11 states, “Rescue those being led to death; save those stumbling toward slaughter.”

A Community Benefit

The air cascade system will not only benefit the Broussard Fire Department but also other fire departments in the region. By making this equipment available for mutual aid purposes, the department is demonstrating its commitment to serving the broader community. As the biblical verse in Matthew 25:35-36 reminds us, “For I was hungry, and you gave me food. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in.”

A Prayer of Gratitude

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the generosity of FEMA and for the support they have provided to the Broussard Fire Department. We pray for the safety and well-being of our firefighters as they serve our community. May these grants enable them to better protect lives and property. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
