Lafayette’s Dr. Kip Schumacher Honored as 92nd Civic Cup Awardee

Lafayette native Dr. William “Kip” Schumacher has been named the recipient of the esteemed 92nd Civic Cup award. This prestigious honor recognizes individuals who exemplify selfless dedication to the betterment of the Lafayette community.

A Servant’s Heart

Schumacher’s commitment to his community aligns perfectly with the spirit of Proverbs 3:27-28: “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. Say not to your neighbor, ‘Go and come again, tomorrow I will give it,’ when you have it with you.” Schumacher exemplifies this ideal by actively seeking opportunities to contribute to the well-being of Lafayette.

A Legacy of Giving

Schumacher’s journey of community service began with his medical career. He served for 17 years in the emergency department at Opelousas Medical Center before co-founding Schumacher Group, now SCP Health. His entrepreneurial endeavors extended beyond the medical field, leading to the co-founding of organizations that advocate for patients and physicians.

In 2018, Dr. Schumacher and his wife, Carolyn, established the William C. Schumacher Family Foundation. This philanthropic effort embodies the spirit of Matthew 6:20: “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” The foundation reflects their commitment to leaving a lasting positive impact on Acadiana.

Building a Better Community

Schumacher’s impact extends far beyond his own initiatives. He actively participates in numerous community and non-profit organizations including Love Our Schools, the Southwest Louisiana Disaster Response Organization, Eight Days of Hope, and the Pratham Education Foundation in India. Echoing the sentiment of Galatians 6:2, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ,” Schumacher recognizes the power of collaborative efforts in achieving positive change. His leadership and tireless efforts inspire others to join him in service.

A Celebration of Service

Dr. Schumacher’s dedication to Lafayette will be celebrated at a banquet on November 12th at the City Club at River Ranch. Tickets can be purchased online to join the community in thanking Dr. Schumacher for his service.

A Prayer for Lafayette and its Leaders

Almighty God, we give thanks for Dr. Kip Schumacher and his unwavering dedication to Lafayette. We pray that his spirit of service continues to inspire others to give generously of their time, talents, and resources.

May You continue to bless Lafayette with leaders who prioritize the well-being of the community. Guide them with wisdom and compassion as they work to improve the lives of all residents.
