A Rare Southern Snow Day
Southern Louisiana woke up to an extraordinary sight last week: a pristine blanket of snow that turned the region into a fleeting winter wonderland. For residents, the unusual weather brought a pause to the daily grind, making way for snowball fights, snowman-building, and childlike wonder.
Snow Queen Cynthia and First-Time Joy
For Lafayette resident Corey Iglus Jr., the snowfall marked a personal milestone. Standing proudly beside “Cynthia, the Snow Queen,” his very first snowman, Iglus couldn’t contain his excitement. “This is crazy,” he shared, reflecting on the rarity of such an event in Louisiana. The last time he saw snow was in 2004, during New Orleans’ memorable white Christmas. This snowfall, he said, felt just as special, creating memories he’ll cherish for a lifetime.
Nostalgia Meets New Memories
The snowstorm has stirred a mix of emotions for residents, many recalling cherished childhood snow days while sharing these magical moments with their families. The sights and sounds of children laughing and playing in the snow are fleeting treasures in the Deep South. As Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” This moment serves as a reminder to embrace life’s unexpected joys.
A Prayer for the Community
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the beauty and joy this snowfall has brought to our community. Bless those navigating the cold with safety and warmth. May these moments of togetherness and wonder remind us of Your blessings and the importance of cherishing time with loved ones. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
