Affiliated Blind of Louisiana Launches Shoe Drive for a Noble Cause

The Affiliated Blind of Louisiana (ABL), a vital organization dedicated to supporting visually impaired, blind, and Deaf-Blind individuals, is hosting a community-wide initiative to help those in need both locally and globally. ABL, which has been providing specialized training and support since 1983, has partnered with Funds2Orgs, a leading shoe drive fundraising company, to launch a campaign focused on collecting gently used shoes.

A Global Need for Shoes

This year’s drive aims to collect shoes to benefit those in need worldwide. It is estimated that over 300 million people globally live without the basic necessity of footwear. As the Bible reminds us in Matthew 25:35, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.” This initiative encourages individuals to reach out in love by donating their gently used shoes, providing both comfort and dignity to those less fortunate.

Supporting the Local Community and Beyond

ABL’s efforts extend beyond just collecting shoes. For each pound of shoes donated, Funds2Orgs will compensate ABL, enabling them to continue their important work within the local community of Lafayette. This is in line with the biblical principle of serving others as expressed in 1 Peter 4:10, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” The shoes will also be distributed to countries in need, bringing hope and assistance to people far and wide.

Environmental Impact and Sustainability

As an added benefit, the initiative promotes environmental sustainability by recycling shoes, keeping them out of landfills and providing them to those who need them most. It’s a beautiful example of God’s creation, where even our unwanted items can be used for good in the world, as taught in Ecclesiastes 3:11, “He has made everything beautiful in its time.”
