A Story of Life, Hope, and Gratitude at Opelousas General Health

A Day of Honor and Remembrance
At Opelousas General Health, a heartfelt ceremony was held to honor organ donors and recipients—those whose lives have been saved and those who gave the gift of life. The event celebrated not only the power of modern medicine but also the profound spiritual and emotional impact of selfless giving. As John 15:13 reminds us, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

A Mother’s Fight and Faith
Among the moving testimonies was Audrey Lanclos’ story. While pregnant, Audrey began to experience kidney issues that she thought were pregnancy-related. Only six months after giving birth, she was diagnosed with Glomerulonephritis, a life-threatening kidney disease. “When you’re young, everything is good, and you never think anything bad will ever happen,” she said. Still, she never lost hope, holding firm to her faith as she underwent a transplant in New Orleans. Her resilience is a reminder of Romans 12:12: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

A Heart Transplant and a Healing Bond
Mark Nelson shared his journey after being diagnosed with idiopathic cardiomyopathy, a condition that causes heart failure. Six months later, he received a new heart. Deeply moved by the donor’s family, Mark arranged to fly them to Louisiana. “I want to help heal that permanent scar they have from losing their son,” he shared. His story reflects 2 Corinthians 1:4: “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.”

A Prayer for the Community
Lord, we thank You for the gift of life and for those who choose to give even in death. Bless the donors, the recipients, and their families. May healing, peace, and hope fill their hearts. Let this community continue to shine with love and gratitude. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
