Lafayette Barbershop Blesses Families with Back-to-School Freebies

A Fresh Start with a Fresh Cut
As families across Lafayette prepare for the new school year, one local barbershop is helping lift the burden for parents and inspire confidence in students. Noel’s Barber Lounge on East Pinhook, owned by longtime barber Royce Noel, is offering free back-to-school haircuts to kids—a simple gesture with powerful impact. “You might be feeling down, but something as simple as a haircut can change a kid’s whole demeanor,” said Noel. His efforts reflect Matthew 25:40: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

More Than a Haircut—It’s Community
Noel’s vision goes beyond the barber’s chair. On August 10th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the lounge will host a full community event: free school supplies, food, bounce houses, and more—everything a family might need to feel equipped for the school year. For kids like 7-year-old Legend, it’s more than a fresh cut: “It makes you feel good about yourself,” he said. That kind of joy speaks to Proverbs 11:25: “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

A Legacy of Love and Service
For Noel, who’s been cutting hair for nearly 30 years, the heart of this effort is simple—serving the people who have always supported him. “When it’s my time to hang up the clippers, I just want to be remembered for something,” he shared. In a season where inflation tightens many wallets, his generosity reflects the love of Christ in action.

A Prayer for the Community
Lord, thank You for servant-hearted leaders like Royce Noel. Bless every child and family preparing for school. May they feel seen, supported, and strengthened. Let this season be one of hope, growth, and peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
