Investing in the Future
Erath High School junior Luke Langlinais is not just thankful for upgraded sports facilities—he sees them as a symbol of pride for the entire community. With over $5.5 million in renovations happening across Vermilion Parish, the school district is making a clear statement: students matter. Funded primarily by the Dan Dartez Trust Fund, the district’s improvements require minimal extra cost to taxpayers. Superintendent Tommy Byler says, “Our kids deserve something they can be proud of.” This initiative reflects Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Parish-Wide Progress
The multi-year project spans the entire parish—from new locker rooms in Gueydan and Kaplan to turf fields and concessions at North Vermilion and Erath. Abbeville High School has already seen restroom upgrades, with more improvements on the way. These changes not only benefit athletes but also students in band, arts, and local community groups who use these spaces for practice, performances, and gatherings. As Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” The time for building is now.
A Community United in Gratitude
Langlinais summed up the student body’s feelings well: “We’re grateful.” These improvements show that students are being heard and valued. The entire project reinforces the biblical principle found in Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”
A Prayer for Vermilion Parish
Heavenly Father, thank You for the vision and resources to improve our schools. Bless the students, teachers, and leaders who serve with passion and purpose. May these new facilities become places of growth, unity, and inspiration. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
