FAITH AND COMMUNITY LIFT WORKERS IN TIME OF NEED

Hundreds Impacted by Job Loss
BROUSSARD, La. — SafeSource Direct, a PPE manufacturing company, has announced the immediate suspension of its operations, leaving 541 workers across Lafayette and St. Martin parishes without employment. While the sudden closure is difficult, the Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA), along with the St. Martin Parish Economic Development Authority, the City of Broussard, and the Louisiana Workforce Commission, are stepping forward to provide resources and new opportunities. As Psalm 34:18 reminds us, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

Hope Through Community Partnerships
Mandi Mitchell, CEO of LEDA, shared that several local employers are already expressing interest in hiring displaced workers. This quick response offers hope during uncertainty. Mitchell noted, “This situation reinforces the importance of supporting domestic manufacturing capabilities, particularly in critical sectors like healthcare supplies.” In Galatians 6:2, Scripture calls us to, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Looking Toward the Future
SafeSource, which launched in 2021 as a joint venture with Ochsner Health System, explained that challenging market conditions forced the temporary suspension of PPE operations. However, they continue construction of their NBR facility, keeping faith in future opportunities. LEDA has also announced plans to host job fairs and possibly a specialty fair to connect SafeSource employees with local manufacturers. In Jeremiah 29:11 we are reminded of God’s promise: “For I know the plans I have for you… plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Prayer for the Community
Heavenly Father, we lift up every worker impacted by these sudden job losses. Grant them peace, strength, and provision in this season of uncertainty. Bless LEDA, community leaders, and local employers with wisdom and compassion as they open doors of opportunity. May hope rise from hardship and may Your hand guide each step. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
