Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Honored for Litter Enforcement

Recognizing Faithful Stewardship
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division was recognized at the Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) Annual Conference in Baton Rouge on September 24. The division received the Everyday Hero Award as the Outstanding State Agency for its diligent enforcement of litter laws across Louisiana. Scripture reminds us in Genesis 2:15: “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” LDWF continues this biblical calling by caring for the land God entrusted to us.

Agents Protecting God’s Creation
In 2024, LDWF Enforcement issued 548 littering citations, reflecting their commitment to addressing illegal dumping and preserving Louisiana’s natural beauty. Senior Agent Mason Castello was individually honored with the Litter Enforcement Award for his leadership in combating gross litter violations. He investigated more than 50 illegal dumping sites in St. John Parish, proving his dedication to protecting both community health and God’s creation. Proverbs 28:1 reminds us: “The righteous are as bold as a lion.” Castello’s boldness ensures accountability for those who harm our environment.

Partnership for a Cleaner Future
Keep Louisiana Beautiful praised LDWF for their partnership and ongoing commitment. Executive Director Susan Russell stated that the agency’s work plays an essential role in keeping communities safe and clean. Col. Stephen Clark, head of the Enforcement Division, affirmed that protecting natural resources includes enforcing litter laws. As Psalm 24:1 declares, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” LDWF’s mission reflects this truth by ensuring Louisiana’s land is respected and preserved.
