Vermilion Catholic overmatched by Riverside Academy to fall to 1-4 on season

A Season of Testing and Growth
ABBEVILLE, La. — Halfway through the 2025 high school football season, the Vermilion Catholic Screamin’ Eagles find themselves in an unfamiliar position. After a 42-19 loss to Riverside Academy, the reigning Division IV State Champions sit at 1-4, a rare sight for a program known for excellence. Yet amid the struggle, Head Coach Broc Prejean remains steadfast in faith and purpose. His message to his team is clear — the true victory lies in character, perseverance, and faithfulness. As Romans 5:3-4 reminds us, “We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.”

Building Champions Beyond the Scoreboard
Coach Prejean acknowledges the challenges of the season but views them as opportunities for growth — both as athletes and as men of faith. “My job now is to build young men,” he said. “We have another half of the season to go, and my job is to help these guys become not only better football players, but better young men.” His leadership reflects the heart of Proverbs 22:6 — “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” In times of defeat, lessons of humility, teamwork, and perseverance shine brighter than any trophy.

Faith for the Road Ahead
As the Screamin’ Eagles prepare for their homecoming matchup against Highland Baptist, they are choosing faith over frustration. Their coach’s unwavering belief in their potential and God’s plan encourages the team to keep pressing forward. “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus” (Hebrews 12:1-2).

A Prayer for the Team and Community
Heavenly Father, we lift up the Vermilion Catholic Screamin’ Eagles. Strengthen their hearts, guide their steps, and remind them that victory in life comes through faith, perseverance, and integrity. Bless Coach Prejean, his players, and their families as they grow together in Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
