Faith, Food, and Fellowship at Festivals Acadiens et Créoles
Celebrating the Gifts of God’s Creation
In Lafayette, Louisiana, the aroma of Cajun and Creole cuisine will soon fill the air as Festivals Acadiens et Créoles returns from October 10–12 at Girard Park. More than a food festival, this celebration is a living expression of God’s abundance and the rich cultural heritage of southwest Louisiana. From beignets dusted with powdered sugar to crawfish étouffée simmered to perfection, the event reminds us of Psalm 34:8: “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.”
Community, Creativity, and Culinary Wisdom
The festival’s Culture Sur La Table tent will offer chef demonstrations that bring faith and food together through creativity and fellowship. Jordon Konow, sous chef at Lafayette’s Vestal restaurant, will teach festivalgoers how to craft a classic crawfish étouffée—a dish that honors local traditions and family gatherings. “My crawfish étouffée is really not complicated,” Konow shared. “The seafood stock is the most important part—it’s your blank canvas.” His wife, Katie O’Hara Konow, head baker at Five Mile Eatery, will follow with her own baking lesson, reflecting the unity and love that come from working together in both marriage and ministry.
Their passion mirrors 1 Corinthians 10:31: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” Even the friendly debates about regional ingredients remind us that diversity is part of God’s creative design.
Faith Through Culture and Connection
Beyond the food, Festivals Acadiens et Créoles strengthens the bonds of community and faith. By celebrating the flavors, stories, and traditions that define Acadiana, this festival serves as a reminder that God’s presence can be found around every table and within every heart that shares.
Community Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the beauty of culture, the blessing of fellowship, and the joy of sharing good food. May this festival unite hearts, inspire gratitude, and remind all who attend that every gift comes from You. Bless the hands that cook, the families that gather, and the community that celebrates together. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
