Faith Fuels Resilience: UL Lafayette Leads Energy Initiative to Empower Communities
A Vision for Hope and Light
LAFAYETTE, La. — The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is taking bold steps toward a brighter, more resilient future through the creation of Community Resilience Hubs. As part of the state’s Hubs for Resilient Energy Operations (HERO) initiative, these centers will ensure that Louisiana communities have access to electricity, communication, and essential services during times of disaster. Backed by a historic $87 million federal grant—matched by state funding—this marks the largest award in the University’s history.
“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?” — Psalm 27:1
Empowering Communities Through Innovation
Led by Dr. Terry Chambers, UL Lafayette will build solar and battery microgrids across Louisiana to power emergency hubs at research centers in Lafayette, New Iberia, and Crowley. Portable solar and Wi-Fi pods will also be deployed to aid in disaster recovery, providing power, food, and water access to affected residents. This effort reflects the biblical call to “be the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14), as Louisiana’s communities unite to bring hope and help in times of crisis.
Building for the Future — Through Faith and Work
The University’s Louisiana Solar Corps program will train workers to install these microgrids, expanding job opportunities and preparing a new generation to serve both their communities and the environment. Partnerships with Xavier University and other state organizations demonstrate unity of purpose and shared stewardship of God’s creation. As Scripture reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23).
Prayer for Strength and Resilience
Heavenly Father, we thank You for blessing Louisiana with visionaries who use wisdom and compassion to serve others. Strengthen the hands of those who build, train, and protect. May these hubs shine Your light during the darkest storms, reminding all that hope is found in You. Amen.
