A Holiday Tradition with Heart and Heritage
Lafayette, LA — This Christmas season, the beloved holiday tradition “The Creole Nutcracker” returns to the Heymann Performing Arts Center on Saturday, December 20, at 7 p.m. Presented by Heritage Parc, the performance uniquely blends Louisiana culture with the timeless story of The Nutcracker ballet, offering audiences a celebration of artistry, faith, and community spirit.
As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ, this local production reminds us of Psalm 150:4-6 (NIV): “Praise him with the tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with the clash of cymbals; praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Through dance and music, performers give glory to God by sharing their talents with the community.
A Story Rooted in Louisiana Culture
Founded in 2018 by Lafayette natives Jazmyn Jones and Leigha Porter, The Creole Nutcracker reimagines the classic tale through a Louisiana lens. The story follows young Clarice as she embarks on a magical journey through the state’s most iconic and historic locations. Audiences will experience a fusion of dance styles, including jazz, zydeco, hip hop, and classical ballet, highlighting the region’s rich cultural diversity.
Leigha Porter, director and producer, said, “The show offers an unforgettable experience, with dynamic choreography and theatrical elements that showcase our community’s diverse traditions.” This approach celebrates the gifts God has placed within the Acadiana community, echoing 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV): “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
Youth and Adults Unite to Share Joy
The production features performers of all ages, from youth dancers to experienced adults, coming together in a shared mission of artistic expression and celebration. By uniting multiple generations, The Creole Nutcracker not only entertains but also teaches the values of teamwork, discipline, and dedication—principles that align with Christian faith and community life.
Such collaboration reflects Colossians 3:23 (NIV): “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Each dancer, musician, and crew member contributes their talents to honor God while delighting audiences with a meaningful holiday experience.
An Invitation to Celebrate Faith and Community
The production is more than just a performance—it is an opportunity for families, friends, and neighbors to gather in the spirit of Christmas, reflect on God’s blessings, and celebrate the rich culture of Louisiana. With tickets available for the evening of December 20 at 7 p.m., the Heymann Performing Arts Center invites all to come and experience the magic, music, and message of hope this production brings.
Psalm 98:4 (NIV) reminds us, “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music.” The Creole Nutcracker embodies this call to joyful celebration, combining art, culture, and faith into a memorable holiday tradition.
