A Mission Rooted in God’s Restoring Love
LAFAYETTE, La. — In the heart of Acadiana, The Hub Lafayette Urban Ministries continues to shine as a beacon of Christ-centered compassion for individuals facing homelessness, chronic poverty, hunger, and life’s hardest transitions. Director Teri Dupuy-Gore recently spoke with Jan Swift on the Discover Lafayette podcast, sharing how the ministry is committed to walking with people through brokenness into renewed hope — a mission that mirrors Psalm 147:3, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
At the Lovewell Center, located at 1515 W. University Avenue, the ministry creates a safe, welcoming environment where dignity is restored and relationships are nurtured. Dupuy-Gore emphasized that The Hub seeks to meet people where they are, offering presence, support, and the unconditional love of Christ.
A Framework Built on Rescue, Relationships, Resources, and Recovery
Dupuy-Gore explained that The Hub operates through what they call the “Four R’s”: rescue, relationships, resources, and recovery. This holistic approach ensures that individuals not only receive immediate help but are given pathways toward long-term transformation. “Our mission is to offer everyone in our city access to restored life,” she said — a mission that aligns with the heart of John 10:10, where Jesus declares, “I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.”
Through rescue, The Hub meets immediate physical needs. Through relationships, volunteers and staff build trust with those who feel forgotten. Through resources, individuals gain access to practical tools. And through recovery, lives begin to heal from trauma, addiction, and years of hardship.
Community Support Fuels Christ’s Work
The Hub’s operations are funded through donations from individuals, churches, grants, and in-kind gifts — a powerful example of the Body of Christ uniting in service. Dupuy-Gore shared that the ministry especially needs canned soups, high-protein items, easy-open foods, toilet paper, full-sized toothpaste, and new underwear for men and women. These seemingly simple items become lifelines to those who have so little.
Every week, volunteers provide meals for Tuesday night community dinners and Wednesday morning breakfasts. These meals are more than food — they are opportunities to extend warmth, fellowship, and the love of Jesus. Matthew 25:35 echoes the heart behind this service: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink…”
Restoring Life, One Person at a Time
The Hub Lafayette Urban Ministries stands as a testimony to what happens when a community commits to seeing and serving people as Christ does. In a world where many feel unseen, The Hub offers compassion, consistency, and a path toward restored life. Their daily work reflects Isaiah 58:10, “If you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness.”
A Prayer for the Community
Heavenly Father, we lift up The Hub Lafayette Urban Ministries, its leaders, volunteers, and every person they serve. May Your love continue to flow through their hands as they rescue, restore, and build relationships rooted in Your grace. Strengthen those facing homelessness and hardship; surround them with hope and healing. Bless the donors and churches who support this mission. Let Your light shine through this ministry so that lives are transformed for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
