Discovering the Power of Nutrition: A Call to Care for God’s Temple

As communities across the nation observe National Nutrition Month® 2026, health educators are encouraging families to “Discover the Power of Nutrition” by embracing healthier eating patterns and daily habits that strengthen both body and spirit. The initiative highlights practical ways individuals can fuel their bodies with balanced meals while avoiding harmful dietary extremes. Scripture reminds believers that caring for physical health is a spiritual responsibility: “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit?” (1 Corinthians 6:19). Nutrition experts emphasize that honoring God includes stewarding the bodies He has entrusted to us.

Healthy Eating as Faithful Stewardship

The campaign promotes choosing foods from all major food groups, including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy or fortified alternatives. Experts also encourage limiting added sugars, sodium, and saturated fats. Rather than following restrictive fad diets, families are urged to seek balance and variety — a principle that mirrors biblical wisdom about moderation. Proverbs 25:27 teaches, “It is not good to eat too much honey,” reminding believers that even good things require wise limits. By planning meals thoughtfully and learning cooking skills, households can nourish themselves even on limited budgets while practicing responsible stewardship.

Healthy Habits that Strengthen Communities

Beyond food choices, National Nutrition Month stresses physical activity and food safety practices such as cleaning surfaces, separating raw foods, cooking to safe temperatures, and properly chilling perishables. These habits protect families from illness and promote community well-being. The Bible encourages believers to seek knowledge that leads to life and health: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). Health professionals recommend seeking science-based nutrition guidance and consulting registered dietitian nutritionists for personalized care — a reminder that wisdom and counsel are gifts from God.

Faith in Action: Caring for Body and Neighbor

Church leaders and community organizations are encouraged to support healthy living through education, shared meals, and outreach to families facing food insecurity. Acts 2:44–45 describes believers sharing resources so that no one was in need, a model still relevant today. By combining faith, compassion, and practical health education, communities can experience renewed strength physically and spiritually.

Prayer for the Community

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for the gift of nourishment and the wisdom to care for our bodies. Help our communities make healthy choices that honor You and bring healing to families. Provide food for those who lack resources, strength for those facing illness, and guidance for caregivers and health workers. Teach us to steward our health with gratitude and to support one another with love and compassion. May our bodies and lives reflect Your goodness each day.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
