Faith, Restoration, and New Beginnings at Second Chance Resource Fair

A Community United for Restoration
LAFAYETTE, La. — In a powerful demonstration of compassion and collaboration, several Acadiana organizations are coming together to host a “Second Chance Tuesday Resource Fair” on April 21, 2026. Led by United Way of Acadiana in partnership with Lafayette District Reentry Coalition, Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections, and Full Gospel Fellowship Ministries, the event reflects a shared mission: restoring lives and rebuilding hope.

Held at the Goodwill Opportunity Campus, this free public event will connect individuals impacted by the justice system with vital resources. Rooted in both service and faith, the effort echoes the biblical promise of renewal found in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new is here.”

Breaking Barriers, Building Futures
The fair will offer a wide range of services, including employment opportunities, housing assistance, legal aid, health services, and education and job training. Organizers say bringing these resources together in one place removes barriers that often prevent individuals from successfully reintegrating into society.

For many returning citizens, the journey back into the community can be filled with obstacles. Yet Scripture reminds believers in Isaiah 43:19, “See, I am doing a new thing!” This event serves as a tangible reflection of that promise—creating pathways where there once were roadblocks.

From financial health resources to food access and peer support, the fair aims to meet both immediate and long-term needs, helping individuals and families move toward stability and independence.

A Faith-Filled Vision for Second Chances
Marissa Winters, Director of Community Impact at United Way and co-chair of LA-REC, emphasized that second chances extend beyond individuals to impact entire communities. “When we invest in reentry support, we’re investing in the future of Acadiana,” she shared.

This vision aligns closely with the heart of the Gospel. Jesus Himself demonstrated grace and restoration, offering new beginnings to those society often overlooked. In John 8:11, He tells a woman caught in sin, “Neither do I condemn you… go and sin no more.” This message of mercy continues to inspire faith-based initiatives like this one.

By addressing root causes of justice involvement and reducing recidivism, organizers hope to foster safer neighborhoods and stronger families—evidence of God’s transformative power at work.

Strengthening Community Through Compassion
The Second Chance Resource Fair stands as a reminder that true public safety is built not only through enforcement, but through opportunity, support, and love. As Galatians 6:2 instructs, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Community members, service providers, and advocates are encouraged to attend, volunteer, and support those seeking a fresh start. In doing so, Acadiana reflects the hands and feet of Christ—lifting others and walking alongside them on the road to restoration.

A Prayer for Renewal and Hope
Heavenly Father, we thank You for being a God of second chances and new beginnings. We lift up every individual and family impacted by the justice system. Lord, open doors of opportunity, provide guidance, and surround them with support and encouragement. Bless the organizations and volunteers working to restore hope in this community. May Your grace lead each person toward healing, purpose, and peace. Strengthen Acadiana as a place of compassion, unity, and renewal. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
