Waiting for Answers
“Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words.” — Daniel 10:12
One of the most fascinating accounts in the Old Testament provides a rare glimpse into what may be happening behind the scenes when we pray. The story comes from the book of Daniel and reveals a powerful spiritual truth: when we pray, God hears us immediately—even if the answer takes time to arrive.
Daniel had been seeking understanding from God. He humbled himself before the Lord, fasting and praying earnestly. Days passed without an answer. Then weeks went by. To Daniel, it may have seemed as if heaven was silent. Yet something extraordinary was unfolding beyond what he could see.
After twenty-one days, an angel appeared to Daniel with a message from God. The angel explained that Daniel’s prayer had been heard from the very first day he prayed. God had immediately sent the messenger with an answer. However, the angel had been delayed because he encountered a powerful spiritual opposition—a demonic force resisting him.
For twenty-one days, a spiritual conflict raged. Eventually, Michael the archangel, one of the chief angels of heaven, was sent to intervene. With Michael’s help, the resistance was overcome and the messenger was finally able to reach Daniel with the answer God had sent.
This remarkable story reminds us that when our prayers are not answered as quickly as we expect, it does not mean that God has ignored us. Sometimes delays are not denials. There may be circumstances and spiritual realities at work that we simply cannot see.
It is easy to become discouraged when we pray for something deeply important and the answer does not come right away. Perhaps you have been praying for a loved one to come to know the Lord. Maybe you have been asking God for healing, guidance, or an opportunity to serve Him in a greater way. When time passes and nothing appears to change, doubt can begin to creep into our hearts.
But Daniel’s story encourages us to remain faithful and persistent in prayer. God hears the moment we call upon Him. Even when we cannot see movement, He may already be working behind the scenes in ways beyond our understanding.
Jesus Himself encouraged persistence in prayer. He taught His followers to keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking. In other words, we are not to give up simply because the answer has not yet appeared. Faith continues praying even in the waiting.
The delay Daniel experienced ultimately revealed a deeper truth: the spiritual realm is active, and our prayers matter. They move heaven and can set events into motion that we may never fully see in this life.
So if you are waiting for an answer today, do not lose heart. Continue to pray. Continue to trust. God hears every sincere prayer, and His timing is always purposeful.
Stay faithful, remain persistent, and watch what God will do.
PODCAST SCRIPT
Dr. Steve:
Imagine this moment.
A man is kneeling alone. His name is Daniel. He has been praying… seeking understanding from God. Day after day he fasts and humbles himself before the Lord. But heaven seems silent.
One day passes.
Then seven.
Then fourteen.
Then twenty-one.
Still no answer.
But what Daniel cannot see is that something extraordinary is happening beyond the visible world.
The moment Daniel first prayed, God heard him. And immediately, heaven dispatched an angel carrying the answer.
But on the way to Daniel… the messenger is confronted by a powerful spiritual force — a demonic prince resisting him. A battle unfolds in the unseen realm.
For twenty-one days the conflict rages.
Finally, Michael the archangel — one of the chief princes of heaven — arrives to intervene. The resistance is broken, and the messenger continues his journey.
At last, the angel stands before Daniel and says these remarkable words:
“Do not fear, Daniel. From the very first day you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words were heard… and I have come because of your words.”
The prayer was heard the first day.
But the answer took twenty-one days to arrive.
Calvin, that story changes the way we think about prayer, doesn’t it?
Calvin:
It really does. Because when we pray and don’t see an answer quickly, we often assume nothing is happening. But this story shows that a lot may be happening behind the scenes.
Dr. Steve:
Exactly. Sometimes we think delay means God has forgotten us. But Scripture reminds us that delays are not denials.
There may be spiritual battles unfolding that we simply cannot see.
Calvin:
That’s a powerful encouragement for anyone who’s been praying for something for a long time.
Dr. Steve:
It really is. Maybe someone listening today has been praying for a loved one to come to Christ. Maybe you’ve been asking God for healing, direction, or an open door of opportunity.
And maybe the silence has made you wonder if God heard you.
But Daniel’s story reminds us of something important — heaven hears the moment we pray.
Calvin:
So the key is persistence.
Dr. Steve:
Exactly. Jesus told us to keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking.
Not because God is unwilling to answer… but because prayer is part of the spiritual battle.
And sometimes the victory is being worked out in places we cannot yet see.
Calvin:
That gives waiting a completely different meaning.
Dr. Steve:
It does. So if you’re waiting today, don’t give up. Keep praying. Keep trusting.
Because the answer you’re waiting for may already be on its way.
