BATON ROUGE, La. — In a moment that celebrates both academic excellence and faithful service, the Louisiana Department of Education has recognized a remarkable group of Acadiana educators as semifinalists and finalists for its prestigious annual awards. These honorees represent not only educational achievement, but also the heart of a calling rooted in purpose. Scripture reminds us in Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord,” a verse clearly reflected in the dedication of these educators.
Teachers of the Year Reflect God-Given Purpose
Among the Teacher of the Year semifinalists are Brittany Delcambre of Delcambre High School in Iberia Parish, Alysa LeBlanc of Milton Elementary School in Lafayette Parish, and Lauren Thibodeaux of Vidrine Elementary School in Evangeline Parish. These teachers have gone beyond lesson plans, nurturing young minds and encouraging students to discover their God-given talents. Proverbs 22:6 teaches us to “train up a child in the way he should go,” and these educators embody that principle daily, shaping not only intellect but character.
Principals Leading with Vision and Faith
Also honored are Principal of the Year semifinalists, including Holly Boffy of W. D. & Mary Baker Smith Career Center, Kandice Broussard of North Vermilion Middle School, Amy Gobert of Elton High School, April Guidry of Grand Prairie Elementary School, and Lauren Rentrop of Patterson Junior High School. These leaders have demonstrated that true leadership mirrors Christ-like humility and service. As stated in Proverbs 11:14, “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” Their guidance has created environments where both students and teachers can flourish.
New and Emerging Educators Answer the Call
In addition, Morgan Vanicor of Welsh Elementary School has been named a finalist for New Teacher of the Year, representing the next generation of educators stepping boldly into their calling. Her work reminds us of 1 Timothy 4:12, which encourages believers to “set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” Even in the early stages of her career, Vanicor is making a lasting impact.
A Statewide Mission Rooted in Excellence
Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley commended the nominees, highlighting their role in strengthening the state’s educational system and helping students succeed academically. While recognition is a significant honor, these educators ultimately serve a higher purpose—impacting lives in ways that echo eternity. Matthew 5:16 calls believers to “let your light shine before others,” and these individuals are doing just that in classrooms across Acadiana.
Prayer for Educators and Communities
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the dedicated educators who pour their hearts into shaping the next generation. Bless these nominees and all teachers, principals, and leaders with wisdom, strength, and compassion. May they continue to reflect Your love and truth in their work. We pray for the students and families they serve, that they may grow in knowledge, faith, and purpose. Lord, guide our communities to support and uplift those who answer the call to teach. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
