FOOD, FAITH, AND FELLOWSHIP UNITE AT LAFAYETTE SLIDER SHOWDOWN

In the heart of Lafayette, a local slider showdown became more than just a culinary competition—it turned into a celebration of community, faith, and generosity. The aroma of grilled sliders filled the air as families, leaders, and neighbors gathered to share food, laughter, and purpose. What began as a simple cook-off quickly became a reminder of Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

KEEP POINTING UP BRINGS FAITH INTO ACTION

At the center of the event was Keep Pointing Up, whose mission is to uplift the community through encouragement and service rooted in Christian values. Founder Kerry Seymour emphasized the spiritual foundation behind the gathering, highlighting relationships built on mutual encouragement and faith. As Proverbs 27:17 teaches, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another,” the event reflected believers strengthening one another through fellowship and shared purpose.

COMMUNITY LEADERS AND ATHLETES JOIN THE TABLE

The showdown drew attention from across the region, including former Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and NFL players, as well as community leaders who served as judges for the competition. Head football coach Michael Desormeaux of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns noted the importance of showing up for meaningful causes in the community. His presence underscored Galatians 6:2: “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” The event became a living example of leadership grounded in service.

A BURGER BUILT ON PURPOSE AND PASSION

Competitor Colby Patout of Door and Windows Pros brought both culinary creativity and heartfelt intention to the grill. His signature slider—crafted with bacon-stuffed beef, pepper jack cheese, caramelized onions, and jalapeño ranch—was prepared with what he described as “a lot of love.” But beyond the flavors, Patout shared that the greatest reward came from connecting with others in faith. The gathering reflected Hebrews 10:24: “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”

A GREATER WIN FOUND IN COMMUNITY AND CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP

While Patout took home the competition win, many agreed the real victory was the unity experienced among attendees. Conversations about faith, life struggles, and shared purpose filled the event space. Participants described a rare moment where competition gave way to encouragement, and strangers became brothers and sisters in Christ. The slider showdown ultimately reflected the body of Christ working together, as described in 1 Corinthians 12:12, many parts forming one body in unity and love.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of community and the opportunity to gather in fellowship and joy. We ask that You bless the people of Lafayette and all who participated in this event. May the seeds of faith planted through kindness, conversation, and service grow into lasting fruit. Strengthen those who are weary, encourage those who are discouraged, and continue to bring unity to communities through Your love. Let every act of service point hearts back to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
