In the heart of Carencro, veterans and their spouses were honored Tuesday afternoon during a heartfelt barbecue held at Super One Foods as part of Military Appreciation Month. The gathering brought together families, community members, and local organizations in a shared moment of gratitude for those who have served in the armed forces. The event reflected the spirit of Hebrews 6:10, which says, “God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people.”
COMMUNITY PARTNERS JOIN TO SERVE THOSE WHO SERVED
The event was made possible through a partnership between Once Was Inc. and Brookshire Grocery, who worked together to ensure veterans felt seen, appreciated, and supported. Volunteers served meals, offered resources, and created a welcoming environment where veterans could relax and enjoy fellowship. Organizers emphasized that the goal was not only celebration, but also awareness—connecting veterans with services that might otherwise go unnoticed. Galatians 5:13 reminds believers, “Serve one another humbly in love,” a message embodied in the teamwork and compassion displayed throughout the event.
A MESSAGE OF REMEMBRANCE AND CARE FOR VETERANS
During the gathering, Racquel Edmond of Once Was Inc. spoke about the importance of ensuring veterans are never forgotten. She emphasized the need to highlight available resources and support systems so that those who served can fully enjoy the freedoms they helped secure. Her message resonated deeply with attendees, many of whom shared stories of service, sacrifice, and resilience. The event became more than a meal—it became a ministry of remembrance. Isaiah 46:4 offers reassurance, saying, “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He who will sustain you,” reflecting the enduring care that communities are called to extend to their veterans.
FELLOWSHIP, FOOD, AND FAMILY IN THE SPIRIT OF GRATITUDE
The barbecue created an atmosphere of warmth and unity, where veterans and their spouses were able to gather in fellowship and enjoy a shared meal. Conversations flowed freely as families connected over stories of service and life after the military. The simple act of breaking bread together reflected Acts 2:46, which describes believers sharing meals with glad and sincere hearts. Organizers noted that moments like these help bridge gaps between generations and remind the community of the sacrifices made for national freedom.
HONORING SACRIFICE THROUGH ONGOING SUPPORT
Beyond the meal, the event highlighted the importance of continued support for veterans throughout the year. Leaders encouraged the community to remain engaged and attentive to the needs of those who have served. Whether through resources, friendship, or advocacy, the goal is to ensure no veteran is left behind. Matthew 25:36 speaks to this calling: “I was in prison and you came to visit me… I was sick and you looked after me,” reminding believers of the importance of caring for those who have given so much in service.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the men and women who have served our nation with courage and sacrifice. We lift up the veterans and families gathered in Carencro, asking for Your blessing over their lives. Provide them with peace, strength, and continued support from their communities. Lord, we ask that You guide organizations like Once Was Inc. and all who serve veterans, that their efforts would bring comfort and hope. May no veteran feel forgotten, and may every heart be reminded of the value of their service. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
