A Store With a Greater Purpose
CROWLEY, La. — A visit to Wildflower Lane Resale Boutique in Crowley can be about finding an affordable outfit, a stylish handbag or a gently used accessory—but the mission behind each purchase reaches far beyond the clothing racks. Proceeds from the boutique help support Faith House, a Lafayette-area organization providing shelter, advocacy and resources to women and children escaping domestic violence.
What may appear to be an ordinary resale store is becoming an avenue for compassion, reminding the community that even everyday purchases can help bring hope to families facing some of their darkest moments. Scripture calls believers to care for those who are vulnerable. James 1:27 teaches that pure religion includes caring for those in distress.
Creating a Safe Harbor for Families
Faith House provides a safe place for women and children seeking to escape abusive homes and begin rebuilding their lives. For survivors, leaving an abusive situation can mean starting over with very little, making practical assistance and emotional support especially important.
Faith House reports that 50% of women and children experiencing homelessness are homeless because they are fleeing domestic violence. The organization also reports that four to six children in every Louisiana classroom witness violence in their homes, while three to four may experience abuse or neglect.
These numbers represent more than statistics. They represent mothers, children, families and communities that need people willing to step forward. Proverbs 31:8-9 calls God’s people to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves and to defend those in need.
A Resale Boutique With a Mission
Located at 616 North Parkerson Avenue in Crowley, Wildflower Lane offers clothing, shoes, accessories and other items at affordable prices. Community members can donate gently used items, shop for “new-to-you” treasures or volunteer their time—all while helping support Faith House programs.
Every purchase has the potential to become part of a larger story. A donated dress can help stock the boutique. A shopper’s purchase can generate support for survivor services. A volunteer’s time can help keep the mission moving forward.
Faith House Development Director Kristin Boutte describes the effort as an investment in second chances, noting that shopping, donating and volunteering at Wildflower Lane helps provide survivors with shelter, advocacy and essential resources.
Faith in Action
For Christians, the work of organizations like Faith House offers a tangible reminder that faith is meant to be lived out through action. Galatians 6:2 says, “Bear ye one another’s burdens.” Supporting survivors is one way a community can help carry those burdens while demonstrating the love of Christ.
Wildflower Lane shows how businesses, shoppers and donors can work together to make a difference. What begins as a simple resale transaction can ultimately contribute to a woman’s journey toward safety, dignity and independence.
A Community Called to Hope
The mission of Wildflower Lane and Faith House demonstrates that meaningful change often begins with ordinary people making compassionate choices. As Acadiana continues to address domestic violence and its effects on families, communities of faith and compassion can help create pathways toward healing.
Psalm 82:3 reminds us to “Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.” Through generosity, service and prayer, the community can help ensure that survivors know they are not forgotten.
Prayer for Survivors and the Community
Heavenly Father, we pray for every woman and child affected by domestic violence. Give survivors courage to seek safety, strength to rebuild and hope for a better tomorrow. Protect those who are vulnerable and surround them with people who will provide compassion, wisdom and practical help.
Bless Faith House, Wildflower Lane, their volunteers, donors and everyone working to bring healing to families. Give our community eyes to recognize those who are hurting and hearts willing to respond.
Lord, help us be people who do not simply see a need, but choose to act. May every act of generosity become a reminder that second chances are possible and that no one has to walk through hardship alone.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
