Acadiana Kindness Changes a Life Through Pay It Forward

LAFAYETTE, La. — A simple act of kindness turned into an emotional moment of hope and encouragement when two Lafayette women chose to help a coworker who was struggling with mounting bills through the Pay It Forward program.

Each month, Bob Giles of Giles Automotive provides $1,000 to a stranger and asks them to pass the gift along to someone they know who is facing hardship. The program has touched countless lives throughout Acadiana, demonstrating how compassion and generosity can make a meaningful difference in a person’s life.

This month, Christy Harris and Josephine Williams were selected to receive the funds with the mission of blessing someone else. Having heard of the Pay It Forward program before, the women immediately knew who needed the assistance most.

Their choice was coworker Samantha Williams, a woman they said has been working hard to rebuild her life after experiencing significant challenges. According to her coworkers, Samantha recently relocated from New Orleans after losing many of her belongings and has been working diligently to get back on her feet.

The Bible reminds believers in Galatians 6:2, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” For Christy and Josephine, helping Samantha was an opportunity to live out that biblical principle in a practical and heartfelt way.

Coworkers Recognize a Need

After finishing their workday, Harris and Williams pointed out Samantha as the person they wanted to help. They explained that she had been facing increasing financial pressures and was struggling to keep up with expenses.

Josephine Williams said Samantha deserved the support because she has continued to work hard despite difficult circumstances. Both women shared that they had recently spoken with Samantha about the growing burden of rent, insurance, and other bills.

What happened next surprised everyone involved.

As the conversation continued, Samantha noticed the gathering and walked over to check on her coworkers. As their supervisor, she wanted to make sure everything was alright. Little did she know that a life-changing surprise was waiting for her.

A Moment Filled With Emotion

When Samantha learned that her coworkers had chosen her to receive the $1,000 gift, she was overcome with emotion and disbelief. The timing could not have been more meaningful.

According to her friends, Samantha had been discussing her financial concerns earlier that same day. The unexpected gift arrived at a moment when she needed encouragement the most.

Witnessing the surprise unfold, Christy Harris reflected on what she believed was more than coincidence.

“We do have a God,” she said, expressing gratitude for the way the blessing arrived exactly when it was needed.

Scripture teaches in Philippians 4:19, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” While challenges remain, moments like these remind many believers that God often works through the kindness and generosity of others.

Faith, Generosity, and Community

Bob Giles explained that before every Pay It Forward presentation, those involved take time to pray and ask God to guide them toward someone who could truly benefit from the gift.

That tradition has become an important part of the program’s mission, which seeks not only to provide financial help but also to restore hope and strengthen community connections.

In a world often focused on individual struggles, this story serves as a reminder that compassion still thrives in Acadiana. Through the generosity of coworkers and the willingness of strangers to help one another, lives can be touched in powerful ways.

As Proverbs 11:25 declares, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” The actions of Christy Harris, Josephine Williams, and Bob Giles reflect that truth, demonstrating how a single act of kindness can inspire faith and bring relief during difficult times.

Prayer for the Community

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the kindness and generosity shown through the Pay It Forward program. We pray for Samantha Williams and all those facing financial hardships. Provide for their needs, strengthen their faith, and surround them with caring people who will encourage them along the way. Bless those who give generously and inspire others to serve their neighbors with compassion and love. May our communities continue to reflect Your grace and goodness through acts of kindness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
