A disturbing incident in Opelousas, Louisiana, has sparked outrage and a call for compassion. Surveillance footage captured on Sunday, June 2nd, showed a woman throwing two defenseless puppies into a dumpster near Sebastian West End Seafood.

Thankfully, the story doesn’t end there. A neighbor, acting as a good Samaritan, witnessed the act and intervened. These precious creatures, creations of God with inherent value (Proverbs 12:10), were rescued from their terrible fate.
The swift response of St. Landry Parish Government investigators also brought a sense of justice. Jasmine Mouton and Kendall Tyler, both 22-year-old residents of Opelousas, were arrested on Monday and face charges of aggravated animal cruelty.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of caring for all living things. As the Bible tells us in Genesis 1:27, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Dominion over creation (Genesis 1:28) comes with a responsibility to be stewards, not destroyers.
The kindness of the neighbor who rescued the puppies reflects the true spirit of our community. Thankfully, these innocent creatures are now safe and receiving the care they deserve. St. Landry Parish Animal Control is currently investigating the case.
Let us all pray for a world where compassion extends to all living creatures, great and small. May we honor God’s creation by showing kindness and respect for all life.
