Letting Go of the Past: Today, July 20th, marks Toss Away the “Could Haves” and “Should Haves” Day. This day encourages us to release the burden of past regrets and embrace the possibilities of the present. As Philippians 3:13-14 reminds us, “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Dwelling on past mistakes can hinder our ability to move forward and experience the joy of the present moment.
Finding Forgiveness: This day is not about minimizing the importance of past experiences. Sometimes, our “could haves” and “should haves” are rooted in genuine mistakes or missed opportunities. However, just as God offers us forgiveness through faith (Romans 3:23-25), we too can forgive ourselves and learn from the past.
Embracing the New: Letting go of regrets allows us to embrace new beginnings. This day is an opportunity to reflect on our aspirations and set intentions for the future. Like the Psalmist who declares, “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24), we can choose to focus on the present moment and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead.
A Prayer for New Beginnings: As we celebrate Toss Away the “Could Haves” and “Should Haves” Day, let us pray for the strength to release past burdens, the wisdom to learn from our experiences, and the courage to embrace the new opportunities that await us. May we find joy in the present moment and move forward with hope and purpose. Amen.
