President Joe Biden announced Thursday that he will suspend his 2024 re-election campaign following significant pressure from Democratic colleagues on Capitol Hill, top donors, and Hollywood stars after a challenging debate performance last month.
In a heartfelt letter, Biden expressed that serving as President has been the “greatest honor” of his life. He stated, “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
Biden plans to address the nation later this week to discuss his decision in more detail. In the wake of his announcement, Democrats are urgently seeking a new candidate to replace him.
