Spiders from Mars: Mysterious Patterns Captured by ESA’s Mars Orbiters

In a fascinating discovery, the European Space Agency (ESA) has unveiled stunning images of what appear to be “spiders” on the surface of Mars. These peculiar arachnid-like formations, captured by the Mars Express and ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) spacecraft, are not actual creatures but rather dark, tendril-like patterns formed by natural processes on the Red Planet.

A Unique Martian Phenomenon

These “spiders” are created when the Martian spring sunlight shines on layers of carbon dioxide ice that have accumulated over the winter. As the sunlight warms the ice, the carbon dioxide at the bottom of the layer sublimates directly into gas. This gas builds up pressure until it bursts through the surface, dragging dark material with it and shattering thick layers of ice in the process. The result is a network of dark channels and spots on the Martian surface, particularly in regions like the so-called “Inca City” in Mars’ southern polar area. This phenomenon is a reminder of the scripture in Job 12:7-10, “But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you.
