Lafayette, LA – In a heartfelt interview with CAST News, Attorney Karnina “Nina” Deane, founder of Your Legacy Building Advocate shared how a personal tragedy in her childhood sparked a life mission: helping families protect their legacies through estate planning. Specializing in wills, trusts, and probate law, Deane is passionate about preventing conflict by educating the community on the importance of having a plan in place.
Deane’s drive to pursue law began at just six years old after the tragic loss of her mother, who was killed by her boyfriend while she was trying to return to serve in the military. With no estate plan in place, Deane’s future could have easily fallen into instability. Thankfully, her grandparents and family stepped in, but the experience opened her eyes to how vulnerable many children can be without legal protection. She recalls knowing from a young age that she wanted to be a lawyer and advocate for families. Today her motto is: “be the person you needed growing up”.
Through her firm, Deane not only offers legal services but also makes estate planning accessible and relatable for everyday families—especially those in underserved communities. Drawing from both her personal experiences and her background in litigation, she helps clients craft secure plans that protect generational wealth and family property.
Deane is also leveraging social media to share free educational content, and her law firm is sponsoring a Free Wills Clinic on June 28th at the Enterprise Business Center of Louisiana, in partnership with the Society of Knowledge. The clinic will offer free preparation of basic wills for community members, helping them take the first step toward securing their family’s future.
