Preparing the Grounds with Purpose
PORT BARRE, LA — As summer break winds down, the halls of Port Barre High School are already buzzing with activity — not from students, but from staff rolling up their sleeves in preparation for a new school year. Classrooms are being refreshed, supplies restocked, and the entire campus is receiving a long-overdue facelift. The effort will culminate this Saturday in a community-wide Beautification Day, and all are invited to help.
“We’re hoping for a really big turnout,” said Bliss LeBlanc, administrative assistant at the school. Flyers have gone up around town, and the project list includes painting, pressure washing, landscaping, and hauling away old materials — made possible in part by a donated dumpster. As Proverbs 16:3 encourages, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” This spirit of dedication is clear in every brushstroke and flowerbed.
A Symbol of Renewal and Community Pride
Principal Nick Macintosh says the event is about more than maintenance — it’s about pride, unity, and love for the school and community. “This isn’t just for our students. It’s for everyone,” Macintosh shared. The relighting of the school’s front sign, dark for five years, serves as a visible symbol of the fresh start.
The community’s willingness to serve echoes Galatians 5:13: “Serve one another humbly in love.” Beautification Day is more than cleanup; it’s a moment of shared purpose and renewed hope.
A Prayer for Port Barre High and the Community
Lord God, we thank You for the spirit of service moving through Port Barre. Bless every volunteer, teacher, and student preparing for this new school year. May their hands find joy in the work, and may this school be a beacon of light in the community. Strengthen the bonds among neighbors and guide this new season with peace and purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
