Young Cadet Honors Late Mother by Graduating Junior Police Academy

A March of Purpose and Pain
Wednesday morning was more than just a ceremony for 11-year-old Kaiden Vallian—it was a moment of deep resolve. As he crossed the stage to graduate from the Opelousas Junior Police Academy, Kaiden carried more than pride in his heart; he carried the memory of his mother, Kiare Vallian, who was tragically shot and killed over two years ago. Her case remains unsolved.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted…” (Psalm 34:18)
Kaiden was only nine when his mother was taken from him. While many kids join the academy for fun and learning, Kaiden joined with a mission: “I want to become an undercover FBI agent… so I can solve my momma’s case.” His strength echoes the biblical truth that God does not waste our pain but uses it for a greater purpose. “What you meant for evil, God intended for good” (Genesis 50:20).

A Legacy of Strength and Love
Kaiden’s grandmother, Holly Winch, stood with pride, reflecting on how her daughter’s determined spirit lives on in her grandson. “She was a go-getter,” Winch said, “and now to see Kaiden following this path, it warms my heart.” Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc, who also lost his mother to violence, shared Kaiden’s drive: “That motivates and encourages me… to bring closure to families.”

We lift up Kaiden and his family, and all those carrying the pain of unresolved loss. Bring justice to Kiare’s case, and comfort to those who mourn. Empower Kaiden as he walks this path of service and healing. May his future be guided by truth, love, and Your hand.
