New Acadiana School Embraces AI to Inspire the Next Generation

From Opelousas to Innovation Leader
Preston Castille never forgot his roots in Opelousas. After becoming a lawyer, law professor, and member of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, Castille returned to give back in a powerful way. Through Helix Community Schools, where he now serves as CEO, he partnered with the St. Landry Parish School Board to create a new kind of learning environment—one that embraces, rather than fears, artificial intelligence. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” This school is a testament to that faith and vision.

Helix AI and Medical Academy Opens Its Doors
Slated to welcome students this August, the 40,000-square-foot Helix AI and Medical Academy will serve students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The school focuses on helping children harness AI for future careers, especially in medicine, coding, and innovation. With future plans for middle and high school expansions, the academy aims to make St. Landry a hub for high-tech learning. Hosea 4:6 reminds us, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” In response, this school equips children not only with knowledge but also the wisdom to use it responsibly.

A Tool, Not a Threat
While some educators hesitate to embrace AI, Castille likens it to the introduction of the calculator—controversial at first, but ultimately indispensable. “AI is here to stay,” he said. “Let’s teach students to use it wisely.” James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God… and it will be given to him.” This school is committed to doing just that.
