A Legacy of Faith and Food
ABBEVILLE, La. — Dupuy’s Seafood and Steak, a cornerstone of south Louisiana cuisine since 1869, has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express. Known for its oysters, crab bisque, and gumbo, the restaurant has been serving the community for over 150 years. As Proverbs 22:28 reminds us, “Do not move the ancient landmark that your fathers have set.” Dupuy’s stands as both a landmark and testimony to God’s blessings of provision and heritage.
Strengthening Community Through Preservation
This grant is part of the National Trust’s “Backing Historic Small Restaurants” program, which uplifts small, independently-owned establishments that contribute to America’s cultural and historical identity. For Abbeville, this investment means not only preserving a historic building but also ensuring that generations to come will continue to gather in fellowship over meals. Psalm 145:4 says, “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.” Dupuy’s has done just that, weaving family, faith, and food into the fabric of the community.
A Hopeful Future
Owners Jody and Tonya Hebert, both Vermilion Parish natives, expressed gratitude for the support that will help improve the restaurant’s exterior, signage, and seating areas. Such enhancements will welcome future guests while maintaining its historic charm. As the Lord says in Isaiah 58:12, “You shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in.” This grant ensures Dupuy’s will remain a beacon in downtown Abbeville.
A Prayer for the Community
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the blessings of heritage, community, and provision. We ask Your continued favor on Dupuy’s Seafood and Steak, its owners, staff, and patrons. May this restaurant remain a place of fellowship, nourishment, and joy. Bless Abbeville and its people and let this preservation remind us of Your faithfulness through the generations. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
