Bayou Vermilion District Launches Community Survey to Shape the Future

A Vision for Renewal and Stewardship
LAFAYETTE, LA – The Bayou Vermilion District (BVD) is inviting residents to participate in a community survey through September 10, aimed at shaping an updated Master Plan for the river’s future. The plan will focus on improving water quality, beautifying the Vermilion, creating recreational opportunities, and fostering economic development. As Genesis 2:15 reminds us, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” The Vermilion is not just a waterway but a creation entrusted to our care.

Community Engagement at the Heart
BVD Executive Director Stephen Broussard noted that this is the first major update since 1985, marking a new chapter in the organization’s stewardship. “We’re eager to reconnect with the community and work together to shape a renewed vision,” he said. The process will include surveys, focus groups, and a public open house in early 2026. BVD Board of Commissioners President Karen Hail added, “The river touches us all in some way, so your voice matters.” Proverbs 15:22 reminds us, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” By seeking input from residents, the plan reflects unity and shared responsibility.

Investing in the Future
To continue its work, BVD will depend on the renewal of its millage this October. Funding supports water protection, recreational spaces, cultural preservation, and tourism. Broussard emphasized that this stewardship is a community effort: “We take our responsibility to the public seriously.” Psalm 24:1 declares, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” Caring for the Vermilion honors God’s creation.

Prayer for Our Community and River
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of the Vermilion and all natural resources You have entrusted to us. Bless the Bayou Vermilion District, its leaders, and our community as we work together to preserve and protect this river. Grant wisdom, provision, and unity so that future generations may enjoy its beauty. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
