Catholic High’s Coach Matt Desormeaux Honored as Saints Coach of the Week

Recognition for Leadership and Excellence
Catholic High head coach Matt Desormeaux has led the Panthers to a strong start in the 2025 season, and his efforts have earned him the honor of being named the New Orleans Saints’ Coach of the Week. The award followed Catholic High’s decisive 20-0 victory over Vermilion Catholic. Now in his third season at the helm of his alma mater, Desormeaux remains humble about the recognition. “It’s nice to get recognized,” he said. “But in my honest opinion, we do the same thing every week. Just because we played a good team and won a game doesn’t change what me or our coaching staff does in a week-to-week process.”

Faith, Discipline, and Commitment
The Panthers, who captured a state championship under Desormeaux’s leadership last fall, continue to chase another title. With a potential 3-0 start ahead against Patterson, Desormeaux emphasizes discipline and execution: “We need to kind of get back on track and play some good, clean football.” His focus reflects Colossians 3:23 — “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

More Than Wins and Accolades
Beyond trophies and accolades, Desormeaux’s mission is rooted in mentorship and character development. “Seeing our kids grow up and develop and do great things is really what it’s all about,” he shared. “We try to help them learn from our mistakes so they don’t make the same ones. That’s really what coaching is all about.” His words echo Proverbs 22:6 — “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
