Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Kansas is home to Mars, a 6-week-old pygmy hippo whose playful personality has captured hearts worldwide. A recent viral video—viewed over 45 million times—shows Mars resisting bedtime, delighting viewers with his stubborn antics. Despite his care team’s best efforts, Mars refused to leave his pool. But when his mother, Posie, gave him the unmistakable “mom stare,” Mars immediately obeyed and followed her inside.

The Universal Power of a Mother’s Guidance
Matt Fouts, Director of the Wildlife Park, praised the moment as both humorous and deeply relatable: “It’s incredible how universal all different species seem to have that mom stare down.” This simple act reflects a truth found in Scripture: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right” (Ephesians 6:1). Just as Mars listened to his mother’s authority, God reminds us of the blessing found in honoring parental wisdom and guidance.

A Testament to God’s Creation and Conservation
Mars is one of only three pygmy hippos born in the United States last year and represents hope for the survival of this endangered species, of which only about 3,000 remain in the wild. As Psalm 104:24 reminds us, “O Lord, how manifold are your works!
