“Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, ‘Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?’ He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, ‘Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?’” — Mark 4:38–40
In this powerful moment, Jesus and His disciples are caught in a furious storm. The waves crash, the boat fills with water, and fear takes over. Meanwhile, Jesus is peacefully asleep in the back of the boat—resting in complete trust of His Father’s care.
The disciples’ reaction feels familiar: “Lord, don’t you care?” In our storms—whether it’s worry, sickness, or uncertainty—we often ask the same question. But Jesus’ calm presence reminds us that He always cares, and He is always in control.
When Jesus spoke, the wind and waves obeyed. The same voice that brought peace to the sea can bring peace to your soul.
Prayer:
Lord, when life’s storms rise around me, help me to remember that You are in my boat. Teach me to rest in Your presence, trust Your power, and find peace in Your promises. Amen.
