Faith Can Be Hardest to Share with Family
It’s often said that the hardest people to reach with the message of Christ are those within our own homes. John 7:5 tells us plainly, “Even His brothers did not believe in Him.” Imagine that—Jesus, the Son of God, walking and living among His family, yet His own brothers could not see who He truly was until after His resurrection. This shows us that even when we live rightly and love deeply, belief cannot be forced—it must be awakened by God’s Spirit.
From Skeptic to Servant
James, the half-brother of Jesus, provides a powerful example of transformation. Though he once doubted, after witnessing the risen Christ, he became a leader in the early church. In James 1:1, he humbly identifies himself not as “the brother of Jesus,” but as “a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.” His humility reveals that real faith changes how we see ourselves and others—it’s not about proximity to Jesus, but surrender to Him.
The Power of Prayer and Perseverance
Many believers today are praying for family members who do not yet believe. It can feel discouraging when loved ones reject the gospel, but Galatians 6:9 encourages us: “Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is still transforming hearts today. What reached James and the rest of Christ’s family was not debate—it was the undeniable truth of the resurrection and the consistent witness of love.
Prayer for the Community
Heavenly Father, we lift up our families to You. Soften the hearts of those who do not yet believe, and give us grace to love them with patience and faith. Help us to live as true reflections of Your mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
