John Curtis Patriots Advance in Playoffs Through Faith, Focus, and Fellowship

A Dominant Victory Through God-Given Talent

NEW ORLEANS, La. — The John Curtis Patriots made their playoff return after a bye week look effortless Friday night, routing No. 10 St. Thomas More 49–7 in the second round of the Division I Select playoffs at the Shrine on Airline. Senior running back Jacobi Boudreaux ignited the Patriots’ offense with three first-quarter touchdowns, helping Curtis (8-2) build a commanding 21–0 lead before the Cougars could find their footing.

This performance highlights 1 Corinthians 10:31: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” Boudreaux’s talent, paired with the teamwork of his teammates, demonstrates that excellence on the field can be a testimony of God-given gifts and dedication.

Faith and Teamwork Set the Tone

Boudreaux opened scoring with a 14-yard touchdown run, followed by a defensive interception by freshman Jaden Turner just minutes later. Curtis’ defense forced three first-quarter turnovers, including another interception by junior Jewellz Tapp, demonstrating a discipline and focus rooted in preparation and faith.

Psalm 33:20-22 reminds us: “We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.” The Patriots’ early dominance reflects the power of trust, preparation, and teamwork, allowing God’s guidance to shine through both offense and defense.

Balanced Offense and Resilient Defense

Curtis’ ground game was relentless, totaling 345 rushing yards with contributions from sophomore Isaac Hrabovsky, senior Gavin Ledet, and freshman Brock Bergeron. Quarterback London Padgett added 73 passing yards while contributing to the rushing attack, showing the depth of talent and unity on the roster. The Patriots’ defense consistently halted St. Thomas More drives, forcing turnovers and stopping fourth-down attempts.

Proverbs 21:31 says, “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.” The Patriots’ preparation was evident, but their confidence stems from reliance on God’s guidance in each play, in every drive, and throughout the season.

Looking Ahead With Faith and Determination

With this commanding win, John Curtis will face No. 2 Teurlings Catholic on the road in the Division I Select quarterfinals. A victory there would advance the Patriots to a semifinal matchup against either No. 3 St. Augustine or No. 11 Rummel.

Coach J.T. Curtis praised the performance of the team’s seniors and younger players alike: “Jacobi’s been like that all year. He’s unselfish, he runs with authority, and he’s a key to our offense. The secondary did an excellent job. That’s what you have to do in the playoffs—win the turnover battle.”

Philippians 4:13 echoes the team’s mindset: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” As the Patriots move deeper into the playoffs, their faith, focus, and commitment to one another will continue to guide them on and off the field.

A Prayer for the Team and Community

Heavenly Father, we lift up the John Curtis Patriots, their coaches, families, and supporters as they continue their playoff journey. Bless them with safety, wisdom, and perseverance. May their victories honor You, and may their teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship reflect Your love. Guide every player and coach, and let every effort glorify Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
