A new Lafayette party series revives the magic of old-school dance floors: ‘Like dance therapy’

LAFAYETTE DANCE SERIES CREATES SPACE FOR FREEDOM AND FELLOWSHIP
Beneath shimmering disco lights and the rhythm of timeless music, a new dance experience is inviting people to rediscover joy, freedom, and connection. The early-evening dance series known as BYGONE is transforming local venues into vibrant spaces where adults can gather without pressure—no phones, no expectations, just movement and music. Hosted in locations like Acadiana Superette, the series is reimagining what it means to come together in community. In a world often filled with distraction, BYGONE echoes the spirit of Ecclesiastes 3:4, which reminds us there is “a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.”

A VISION ROOTED IN HEALING AND LIBERATION
For founder Jesse Guidry, the heart behind BYGONE is simple yet powerful: to create a welcoming environment where people can feel unburdened. Describing the experience as “dance therapy,” Guidry emphasizes the importance of providing a space where individuals can move freely without fear of judgment or scrutiny. In Galatians 5:1, Scripture declares, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” While BYGONE is not a religious gathering, its mission to cultivate freedom and release reflects a deeper human need for restoration and joy.

RECLAIMING COMMUNITY IN A PRESSURED CULTURE
In today’s social climate—where many feel self-conscious or constantly observed—BYGONE intentionally removes barriers. By discouraging phone use and focusing on consent and inclusivity, the event fosters a sense of trust and authenticity. Guidry, now in his early 40s, recognized a gap in dance spaces that cater to those seeking connection rather than nightlife pressures. Venues such as The Office and NiteTown may offer dancing, but BYGONE seeks something deeper—a return to shared human experience. Hebrews 10:24-25 encourages believers to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together,” a principle reflected in this growing community.

INSPIRED BY EXPERIENCE, BUILT WITH PURPOSE
The idea for BYGONE was born after Guidry attended a matinee dance event in New York in 2023. That experience—hours spent dancing freely among strangers—left him feeling renewed and inspired. Within weeks, he launched BYGONE in Lafayette, building a series centered on music, movement, and mutual respect. Attendance has grown steadily, drawing a diverse crowd united by a common purpose: to dance. Psalm 149:3 proclaims, “Let them praise His name with dancing,” reminding us that movement itself can be an expression of joy and gratitude.

A YEAR OF RHYTHM, UNITY, AND CELEBRATION
The BYGONE series continues throughout the year, with upcoming events at Wild Child Wines and Johnson’s Boucaniere, each featuring unique musical themes and talented DJs. From disco classics to vinyl sets spanning decades, the events celebrate the richness of musical history while fostering present-day connection. Attendees can even contribute to collaborative playlists, further strengthening the sense of community.

A DANCE FLOOR WITH A DEEPER PURPOSE
Though BYGONE operates as a passion project rather than a business venture, its impact reaches beyond entertainment. It offers a safe, welcoming space for individuals to release stress, build relationships, and experience joy without fear. In doing so, it reflects a timeless truth found in John 8:36: “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” Even in a simple dance floor setting, glimpses of that freedom can be felt.

PRAYER FOR THE COMMUNITY
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of joy and the ability to express it through movement and connection. We lift up the BYGONE community and all who gather in Lafayette seeking freedom and fellowship. Bless the organizers, the participants, and every space where people come together in unity. Remove fear, self-doubt, and anxiety, replacing them with confidence, peace, and joy. May these gatherings strengthen community bonds and remind all who attend of the freedom and life found in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
