The World’s Formula Falls Short
In today’s culture, happiness is often equated with self-promotion and personal gain. The world says, “Look out for number one.” But this path, though popular, leads to emptiness. Scripture offers a radically different prescription: love God and love others. Jesus said, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself’” (Matthew 22:37–39).
God’s Blueprint for Joy
True joy is found not in selfish ambition but in selfless service. Philippians 2:1–3 urges believers to be “like-minded, having the same love… Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.” This isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom. When we live to bless others, we reflect the heart of Christ and experience the fulfillment we were created for.
Love That Looks Beyond Self
God’s Word acknowledges that we naturally look out for ourselves. But Philippians 2:4 challenges us to go further: “Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” This is the path to lasting happiness—not chasing our own desires, but walking in love and humility.
A Prayer for Our Community
Lord, teach us to love You with all our heart, soul, and mind. Help us to love others as You have loved us. Free us from selfish ambition and fill us with compassion. May our lives reflect Your joy, Your peace, and Your purpose. Let us be known not by what we gain, but by how we give. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
