Choosing Godly Friendships

Scripture teaches in 2 Timothy 2:22 to “run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts” and instead pursue “righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace.” The verse also encourages Christians to enjoy fellowship with those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.

A Relationship That Became a Spiritual Burden

One powerful testimony shared from a church counseling moment involved a young woman seeking prayer for a troubled relationship. When asked if the man she was dating was a committed Christian, she admitted she was uncertain. As the conversation continued, it became clear the relationship was pulling her away from God instead of drawing her closer to Him.

Church leaders reminded her that not every relationship is meant to be repaired. Sometimes God calls His people to step away from unhealthy influences in order to protect their spiritual growth. Proverbs 13:20 teaches, “Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.” Many Christians today are facing similar struggles as they attempt to balance faith with relationships that may not honor God.

Fellowship with godly people can bring encouragement, peace, and spiritual maturity during difficult seasons. Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds Christians not to neglect gathering together but to encourage one another in faith and love.
