Breaux Bridge Youth Chosen to Represent Louisiana on National PBS KIDS Series

CAST NEWS — A young boy from Breaux Bridge is preparing to represent Louisiana on a national stage while sharing a message of culture, leadership, and kindness with children across America.

Ten-year-old Jacob of Breaux Bridge has been selected to appear in America’s Awesome Kids, a new live-action short-form series premiering May 22 on PBS KIDS and supported by Louisiana Public Broadcasting. The program will feature 25 mini-documentaries spotlighting children from across the country who are making positive impacts in their communities while celebrating the unique cultures and traditions of their hometowns.

Jacob was selected following a nationwide search for inspiring young people who demonstrate leadership, creativity, and compassion. Producers were impressed by his involvement in trail riding, football, and his efforts to create an anti-bullying campaign at his school.

Sharing Louisiana’s Cajun Heritage With the Nation

In his featured episode, Jacob will introduce viewers to Louisiana’s rich Cajun culture and the close-knit spirit of Acadiana communities. Through his story, audiences nationwide will receive a glimpse into the traditions, hospitality, and values that make South Louisiana unique.

Community leaders say Jacob’s selection is a reminder that young people can make meaningful differences when they use their talents to encourage others and promote kindness.

Proverbs 22:6 teaches, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Many local educators and faith leaders believe Jacob’s example reflects the importance of raising children with strong values, compassion, and confidence in who they are.

Nancy Tooraen, Education Director for Louisiana Public Broadcasting, said the series offers children nationwide the opportunity to learn about communities beyond their own.

“This was a wonderful opportunity to provide children across the country with a glimpse of what life is like for children in Louisiana,” Tooraen said. “As we celebrate America’s 250, there is no better time to explore the diversity of personalities and cultures that make both Louisiana and America such fantastic places to grow up and live.”

A Young Leader Promoting Kindness

One of the qualities that set Jacob apart was his anti-bullying campaign developed for his school. Family members and educators say his desire to encourage kindness and inclusion reflects maturity beyond his years.

Faith leaders say efforts to combat bullying and uplift others align closely with biblical teachings about love, compassion, and treating others with dignity. Ephesians 4:32 encourages believers to “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Community members throughout Breaux Bridge say Jacob’s story offers hope and encouragement at a time when many families are searching for positive role models for children.

By using his platform to promote kindness while celebrating Louisiana culture, Jacob is helping demonstrate how even young voices can inspire unity and understanding.

An Encouraging Example for Families Across Louisiana

Residents across Acadiana are celebrating Jacob’s achievement not simply because of television recognition, but because of the positive values he represents. Many say his story reminds communities that leadership can begin at any age when children are encouraged to serve others and take pride in their heritage.

The series will air beginning May 22 on LPB-HD, the PBS KIDS 24/7 channel, and streaming platforms including the PBS KIDS Video App and PBS digital services.

Philippians 2:4 reminds believers, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Supporters say Jacob’s example reflects that spirit through his compassion, leadership, and love for his community.

Prayer for the Community

Heavenly Father, thank You for young leaders like Jacob who use their gifts and talents to encourage others and shine light in their communities. Bless the children and families of Breaux Bridge and all those working to teach kindness, respect, and compassion to the next generation. Help our youth grow in wisdom, courage, and faith as they positively impact the world around them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
