CAST NEWS — One of Acadiana’s most beloved community fundraisers is preparing to return as Miles Perret Cancer Services launches the 26th annual Games of Acadiana, bringing families together in support of individuals battling cancer throughout South Louisiana.
The annual fundraiser will officially kick off Saturday, May 30, at Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organizers say the free family-friendly event will feature interactive games, activities, scavenger hunt clues, secret missions, and a survivor walk honoring cancer patients and survivors throughout the region.
Following the kickoff celebration, participants will embark on a 15-day virtual scavenger hunt offering more than 50 prizes, including a grand prize of $10,000.
Community leaders say the fundraiser continues to grow each year because of the compassion and generosity of Acadiana residents who rally around families facing difficult medical journeys.
A Ministry of Compassion and Encouragement
For more than two decades, Miles Perret Cancer Services has provided emotional, financial, and practical support for individuals and families affected by cancer. The organization assists residents by offering services such as transportation assistance, nutritional supplements, wigs, counseling resources, and support programs at no cost to patients and families.
Faith leaders across Acadiana say the mission of caring for those facing illness reflects Christ’s example of compassion and service to those carrying heavy burdens.
Galatians 6:2 reminds believers to “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Supporters say the Games of Acadiana serves as a visible example of that Scripture in action as businesses, volunteers, churches, and families unite to encourage neighbors facing cancer diagnoses.
Beth Guidry, spokeswoman for Miles Perret Cancer Services, recently spoke about the importance of the fundraiser and the impact community involvement has on families throughout Acadiana.
Organizers say every registration, donation, and volunteer effort directly supports local cancer patients during some of the most difficult seasons of their lives.
Celebrating Survivors and Strengthening Hope
One of the most meaningful moments of the kickoff event will be the survivor walk, where cancer survivors will be recognized and celebrated for their courage and perseverance.
Community members say the walk offers encouragement not only for survivors, but also for families currently navigating treatments, uncertainty, and grief. Many participants attend in honor or memory of loved ones whose lives have been impacted by cancer.
Romans 12:15 teaches believers to “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” Organizers say the Games of Acadiana creates space for both celebration and support, allowing the community to stand together through every stage of the cancer journey.
Families participating in the scavenger hunt will also have opportunities to build memories together while supporting a meaningful cause. The event’s combination of fun, fellowship, and service has helped make it one of Acadiana’s most anticipated annual traditions.
Faith and Community Working Together
Local pastors say events like Games of Acadiana remind communities that even in the face of sickness and hardship, hope can still flourish through unity and compassion.
Volunteers, sponsors, and donors continue working together to ensure cancer patients across Acadiana receive practical assistance and emotional encouragement during treatment and recovery.
Isaiah 41:10 offers comfort to many families facing illness: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.”
As the 26th annual fundraiser begins, organizers invite the public to participate not only for the games and prizes, but also to help bring hope and support to families who need it most.
Prayer for the Community
Heavenly Father, we lift up every cancer patient, survivor, caregiver, and family represented through Games of Acadiana and Miles Perret Cancer Services. Bring comfort to those facing treatments, fear, and uncertainty. Strengthen the volunteers, donors, and community leaders serving others with compassion and love. May this event bring hope, healing, and encouragement to all who participate. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
